Video in Flash becomes the new standard

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced that customers including E! Networks, Jaguar, and Image Line are using Adobe video solutions to create and extend rich media content for television, DVD and the Web, resulting in increased viewership and brand awareness. In addition, an AccuStream iMedia Research study of Content Delivery Networks reveals that Macromedia® Flash® video has now overtaken Apple's QuickTime® and RealNetworks' RealPlayer® in the delivery of web-based streaming media traffic and today is growing faster than Windows Media® Player*. As the preferred format for secure, high-quality streaming media, Flash video is being used in high traffic web properties such as Comcast, Fox, and New York Times.

"With Flash video becoming ever more popular and Flash technology now integrated across our video solutions creative professionals can create and deliver rich media content for any medium," said Jim Guerard, vice president of product management, Web and Video Solutions at Adobe. "Innovative companies such as E! Networks, Jaguar and Image Line are choosing integrated products like Adobe Production Studio that simplify workflows and output content in the formats demanded by consumers, from streaming video on the Web through to HD."

Adobe video solutions include: Adobe® Production Studio, a complete post-production solution that offers efficient video editing, effects, audio and graphics creation; Macromedia Studio 8, the industry-leading web suite for designing and developing interactive Web sites and applications. Flash Media Server 2 for streaming media applications; and Flash Player a widely adopted player format that allows users to watch interactive media experiences regardless of their connection speed, platform, or browser.

Major Brands and Innovative Companies Choose Adobe Video Technology

In January 2006, E! Entertainment Television built a broadband on-demand video network, The Vine @ E! Online, to enhance the existing brand presence. E! uses Flash authoring tools, Flash Media Server, and the ubiquitous Flash Player® 8 to deliver secure, interactive content from many of its popular shows including E! News, Live from the Red Carpet, Dr. 90210, and The Soup, in addition to original content produced for broadband.

"Consumers are looking for high quality video that's easy to access, whether on TV or on the Web," said John Najarian, SVP, New Media for E! Networks. "The Flash family of products let us to deliver high quality secure video that reaches millions of online fans."

Jaguar and Global Beach have developed an impactful online microsite for the launch of the new XK sports car. Leveraging Flash, the comprehensive `Build and Price' module allows users to configure their own unique accessories package as well as customize the look of their XK. The details of the configuration together with the price information are then offered to the user as a single quality PDF document.

"We wanted a Web site as exciting as our new XK sports car, and using Flash Professional 8 and Flash Player 8 Global Beach delivered an immersive and deeply engaging luxury brand experience to engage customers, making video and film the main component for a cutting-edge online experience," said Ms. Bibiana Boerio, managing director, Jaguar Cars Ltd. "The immersive feeling of the site has lead to more visitors requesting additional information, planning a test-drive and customizing their new XK online before visiting their local dealership."

To showcase the film career accomplishments of director Robert Altman, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences aired a retrospective of his work during the 2006 Academy Awards show. Filmmaker John Bloom hired Image Line Productions, who turned to the new release of Adobe Premiere® Pro software to deliver the tribute, leveraging new native HDV, HD, and SD support.

"As an editing tool Adobe Premiere Pro gives us so many creative options and technical control," said Ben Jehoshua, creative director for ImageLine Productions. "The subclips and new Clip Notes feature are major new enhancements that allowed us to condense 48 hours of footage efficiently and made it easy to track, organize and digitize in order to produce a two-minute retrospective."
